T10 LED Bulb Not Lighting Up? Tiny Detail Could Be the Reason!

If you’ve ever tried installing T10 LED bulbs yourself—for license plate lights, dome lights, or interior lights—you might have run into this frustrating issue:

👉 The bulb doesn’t light up after installation
👉 Flipping it around doesn’t help
👉 It flickers or acts like it’s not making contact

You’ve double-checked the polarity. It should work… but it doesn’t. What gives?

Actually, the problem often comes down to one small but important detail 👇

🔍 The Secret Lies in the Two Contact Pins

On the base of every T10 bulb, you’ll see two small metal pins. These are what make contact with the metal clips or copper plates inside your car’s socket—one for positive, one for negative.

When current flows properly through both pins, the bulb lights up.

Here’s the catch:
Most T10 bulbs come from the factory with those two pins aligned perfectly straight. That seems fine, but in the real world, every car socket is slightly different—different tolerances, angles, or contact points.

So what happens?
✅ The pins don’t make full contact
✅ No current flows
✅ The bulb doesn’t turn on—even if polarity is correct!

🛠 The Fix Is Super Simple: Adjust the Pins Slightly

If your T10 LED bulb isn’t lighting up (and you know it’s the correct type), try this easy trick:

  1. Remove the bulb and take a close look at the two pins on the base.

  2. Using your fingernail or a small tool, gently bend the pins slightly outward.
    (Don’t overdo it—just a small tweak!)

  3. Reinsert the bulb and turn the power on.

Chances are, the pins will now make firmer contact with the socket’s copper terminals—problem solved!

It’s not a defect — it’s simply part of the normal aging process.

✅ Small Tweak, Big Difference

This tiny adjustment is a well-known trick among seasoned DIYers and car mechanics, but often overlooked by first-time users.

If you enjoy working on your own vehicle, this is a good habit to keep in mind—just a little attention to detail can save you a lot of time and confusion.
